About The Author

Sarah J. Maas

Sarah J. Maas is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Throne of Glass series as well as the A Court of Thorns and Roses series.
Sarah lives in Bucks County, PA, and over the years, she has developed an unhealthy appreciation for Disney movies and bad pop music. She adores fairy tales and ballet, drinks too much tea, and watches an ungodly amount of TV. When she's not busy writing, she can be found exploring the historic and beautiful Pennsylvania countryside with her husband and canine companion.

I haven't found the right words to express my excitement about this book and series but I'll try. After reading the first book in this series A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) I wasn't really sure what to expect from the series since I didn't completely love ACOTAR. And now I immensely understand the hype around this series and any book by Sarah for that matter. I absolutely LOVED this book!! The characters were amazing, the plot, and the writing were super great. I absolutely loved everything about this book!

The character development in this book was phenomenal. I think Feyre went through a lot in ACOTAR and that she's a different person after everything that happened under the mountain. She's dealing with PTSD and so is everyone else, Tamlin and Rhysand. They're all dealing with it differently, Tamlin is being over protective with Feyre and backing her up into a corner not noticing how it's affecting her. Feyre feels trapped and not even Lucien could help her. All the new characters that were introduced were great, I thought they all flowed together real well. They were squad goals! And Rhysand who is just so beautiful and selfless and wonderful. I can't say enough good things about him, he endured so much for his people and would do anything for them.

I also want to mention that PTSD isn't portrayed in YA very much and I wanted to appreciate the accuracy in which Sarah portrayed it. I thought it was very well done, post traumatic stress disorder is very common in our every day lives and a very serious matter and I think that it should be talked about more in the young adult reading community.

The plot was a Persephone and Hades retelling and it came together so well. The ending was so beautifully crafted, it was perfect. A total cliffhanger btw.

Sarah J. Maas's writing is so addicting, I was at the edge of my seat while reading this story. This is one of my favorite books!

Discussion/ Spoiler Section

I loved this book so much! So I need to talk about the ending first...
OMG! Her sisters becoming Fae and one having a mate, like what?! The ending was soo good! The High Lady of the Night Court which Tamlin said wasn't possible btw. And she's going to be a spy for the Night Court and she has to "pretend" to still be in love with Tamlin. Can I just say that I hate him! How can you say you love someone and then betray their whole family and everyone she loves? I think that he was hanging on too tight to Feyre, he's scared that something might happen to her because he's also dealing with the aftermath of what happened under the mountain. Rhysand! The love of my life, is gorgeous inside and out. He gave himself up for his people, his story is so sad and he endured it all for everyone he loves and to make sure they were safe. His story is the most selfless one I've ever read. The way that Rhysand is with Feyre, letting her make her own decisions and not letting her stand on the sidelines. Feyre just wanted to be free, to make her own choices and Rhys just let her be herself and didn't try to change her.

I think that now I get that when Sarah J. Maas needs to end a love triangle she completely destroys one of the characters. And I'm sure we all think that Tamlin is a monster both inside and out. She wrote him out to be so bad that there would be no way in hell that Fayre would ever go back to him willingly, mate bond or not. Feyre was betrayed in one of the worse way possible but Tamlin thought that she was in real danger. I understand Tamlin because he does love Feyre in his own way and he didn't know that the king was going to harm her sisters and didn't know how truly evil he was. So in any case, Tamlin can't be redeemed in my eyes.
