January is Walk Your Dog Month!

January is Walk Your Dog Month and what better way to kick start your New Years Resolutions by reading some great YA books that feature dogs?  If you are like me, you love dogs and want to spend more time with them because they just get you.  This awareness month is a great way to help dust off the January blues, read a few good books, maybe go out and adopt a new dog, or if you already have one start taking him/her out for more walks.  It's a fun way to get out of the house and your dog will love you for it! Here is a list of YA books that will have you begging for more! Last Chance by Norah McClintock In this charming YA novel by Norah McClintock, the main character Robyn is scared of dogs—like, really scared. But she agrees to spend her summer working at an animal shelter anyway. (It's a long story.) Robyn soon discovers that many juvenile offenders also volunteer at the shelter—including Nick D'Angelo, a boy from Robyn's past. A boy she hoped to never see again. Ni...

Review:Flicker Box

OCTOBER FLICKER BOX REVIEW I'm so excited to tell you about my newest find and addiction! SUBSCRIPTION BOXES! Here is my first review of an awesome find that I have fallen in love with. I was recently given the opportunity to work with a company called  Flicker Box . It's a monthly subscription service for candle lovers!    Flicker Box is inspired by a love and appreciation for handmade candles.  Their mission is to  connect candle lovers with people who love to make candles.  They  scour the United States to find candle makers who create candles with a unique quality and want to share those qualities with you and your home.   Flicker Box shares their stories and ships subscribers a delightfully curated box right to your front door! So here is the lovely box I found on my doorstep. As I cut the packing tape my senses were assaulted by the heavenly smells of autumn that filled my kitchen and had my husband wandering in to see where the wonde...

17 & Gone by Nova Ren Suma Seventeen-year-old Lauren is having visions of girls who have gone missing. And all these girls have just one thing in common—they are 17 and gone without a trace. As Lauren struggles to shake these waking nightmares, impossible questions demand urgent answers: Why are the girls speaking to Lauren? How can she help them? And… is she next? As Lauren searches for clues, everything begins to unravel, and when a brush with death lands her in the hospital, a shocking truth emerges, changing everything. I LOVED this book! The writing reminded me a lot of Nova’s other book, Imaginary Girls. Mysterious, beautiful, lyrical writing that sometimes seems more like poetry than what you would find in a young adult novel, and honestly the writing itself is much more mature than you will find in many YA novels these days. The main character in the story is Lauren a teen who is seemingly normal on the outside. However, she has some serious issues brewing within her. She d...

Book Review-BRUISED

BRUISED By Sarah Skilton March 2013 288 Pages Amulet Publishing Summary Taken from Goodreads: Imogen has always believed that her black belt in Tae Kwon Do made her stronger than everyone else--more responsible, more capable. But when she witnesses a holdup in a diner, she freezes. The gunman is shot and killed by the police. And it's all her fault. Now she's got to rebuild her life without the talent that made her special and the beliefs that made her strong. If only she could prove herself in a fight--a real fight--she might be able to let go of the guilt and shock. She's drawn to Ricky, another witness to the holdup, both romantically and because she believes he might be able to give her the fight she’s been waiting for. But when it comes down to it, a fight won’t answer Imogen's big questions: What does it really mean to be stronger than other people? Is there such a thing as a fair fight? And can someone who's beaten and bruised fall in love? My Thoughts: Wow! ...
